Quick Tips on Taking Care of Your Home Floor

Taking Care of your floor is important.    You have to keep it looking new as this attracts the attention of your guests.

Remember that different floors have different needs.  Each floor is cleaned in varying ways depending on its type.  Knowing the right cleaning procedure for each floor type will help you protect and avoid damages on your floor. Below are some important tips that you should keep in mind:

1.)    Hard Flooring.  This includes ceramics and natural stones such as limestone, marble, granite and travertine.  Natural stones are usually used in living rooms while ceramic floors are used in bathrooms and kitchens.

Hard floors are one of the easiest to clean and maintain.  It does not require much maintenance.     It is durable and resistant to heat.

Make sure to sweep, dust and vacuum regularly especially when it is textured.  Remember not to use beater bar as this will damage and scratch the flooring.

You can also use a wet mop as needed.  Keep in mind that natural stones are slippery when wet.   Make sure to dry the floor once done mopping to avoid any accidents.  Floor manufacturers suggest that you use a cleaning product specifically designed for natural stones.

2.)    Wood Flooring.  Do not use concentrated cleaning products on hardwood floors.  This will cause serious problems and eventually lead to floor damage.

Any product that will introduce water to the wood floor is a big no-no.  Wood tends to expand when it’s wet.

You can also dry mop your floor once in a while to remove the dust and dirt.  Bear in mind that you need to couple floor mopping with a professional cleaning product. Dry mopping alone will eventually grind the dust and dirt into the surface which can lead to unsightly scratches.

3.)    Laminated Flooring.    You can find laminated floors in the market that is water resistant.  This is usually easier to maintain than the wood flooring.

All you need to clean laminated flooring is a mop and some cleaning supplies.  Make sure not to use excessive water on the floor as this may lead to permanent damage.  Dry with a damp cloth immediately.  Do not use chemicals and cleaning products such as wax, abrasive cleaners and soap based detergents.

4.)    Sheet flooring.  This includes vinyl and linoleum.  This is definitely one of the most affordable among all types of floors without really sacrificing its durability.  The downside is that it requires constant care and maintenance as it easily absorbs dust and dirt.

Do not use detergents, paste wax or solvent-based polishes as this may cause unwanted floor damage.
