Having a toddler inside the home will surely bring joy and happiness. But having a toddler also means that you need to be more mindful of the things around them. These little ones are very active, curious and always on the go. It is the parents responsibility to make sure that the baby is safe all the time whether inside or outside the house. Below are some tips to make your house a toddler-proof environment.
- Keep all the glass vases, figurines and other breakable items out of reach. Toddlers love to play with colorful things. They might mistake vases as their toy.
- Secure all chemical products that might pose danger to your toddler. These include shampoos, lotions and perfumes.
- Put child-proof latches on the cabinet doors to make sure that they will not have access on the stuff inside the cabinet. This is especially important on the cabinets where chemicals and sharp objects are stored.
- If you decorate your house with plants then this is the time to check if they are safe to be around with the baby. Some plants are poisonous while others have thorns that might cause harm to them.
- Buy covers for electrical outlets. This is to keep the little ones from inserting their fingers in the outlet.
- If you have a fireplace, make sure that it is covered with doors to keep your child from playing on that spot.
- If you have stairs, make sure to install a baby gate to keep your toddler from tumbling down.
- Keep away any cords out of toddler’s sight. This can be an electrical cord or simply a window blind cord. This is necessary to prevent accidents like strangling on the cord or getting electrocuted.
- Keep away all adult items like knife, scissors, coins, ball pens and other things that can pose danger. Little children like to put any small objects on their mouths. These can easily choke them if they are not stored properly.
- If possible, install carpets on the floor to keep the toddlers safe in case they fall down. But also remember to clean them at least once a week to keep away the dust and dirt that might cause allergies.
- Install corner cushions on cabinet corners or edges to make sure your baby is protected in case they bump their heads on this spot.
- Install a door hinge guard to prevent serious damage when fingers get pinch on the door hinge.
You can still decorate your house elegantly but this time extra care is needed to make sure your little ones are in a safe environment. Your toddlers and their safety should come first above all things.
