Keep Your Home Free From Pollutants

Pollutants inside the home pose many health dangers.  Children are especially prone to these harmful toxic substances. To find out more about how to keep your home free from pollution read on:

1.      Open your windows

Let the air from outside come in.  Contrary to popular belief, the air inside is actually more polluted than the air outside.  Keeping the windows open will constantly have the air circulating.

In Feng Shui, the wind is important because it carries natural energy and transmits chi inside your house.  Blocking this chi would have many adverse effects.  To trap the chi, it is important to have water elements such as aquariums and indoor fountains.

2.      No Smoking Policy

Don’t let anyone smoke inside your house.  Remember that you are not exempted from this policy.  Smoking is a health hazard for you as well as everyone else in your family.

3.      Don’t leave the car idle

Cars produce carbon monoxide and the fumes can easily penetrate your home.  Long term exposure to carbon monoxide can produce disorientation, unconsciousness and nausea.  Make sure to turn off the car as well as any other fuel burning machines immediately when not in use.

4.      Go Green

Plants clean the pollutants from the air naturally.   They filter out chemicals such as benzene and carbon monoxide.  Read our article, Give your home a touch of nature.

5.      Stop using pesticides

There are many natural ways to keep pests away from your home.  Pesticides are loaded with dangerous chemicals that can affect liver functions as well as damage the central nervous system.

6.      Avoid Carpeting

Carpets easily trap dirt and dust and they are very hard to clean.  Carpets are also full of carcinogenic substances such as benzene and formaldehyde.  If you must have a carpet, opt for the eco friendly ones.

7.      Avoid Dry Cleaning

For your designer clothes, it is best to use gentle hand wash rather than to take it out for a dry clean.  During dry cleaning, the fabric is treated with many chemicals.  If you want these harmful chemicals to touch your body and penetrate your skin then do it.

8.      Keep out the fumes

Take away old paint, paint stripper and gas from storage bins.  These fumes eventually find its way inside the house.  It is better to throw it away and lose a few dollars rather than compromise your health.

9.      Fix the Leak

Dampness inside the home can cause molds and mildew to appear.  The dampness as well as molds can induce asthma as well as chronic coughs.

10. Clean your Air conditioner

The air conditioner accumulates dust in its filtration mechanism.  This accumulated dust is sucked in the system and eventually blown back out providing a complete cycle of dirt circulating your room.  Be sure to keep it this clean regularly.
