Going green is all the rage in this day and age. A lot of people are going out of their way in ensuring that they are not damaging the environment more than they have to. We can all be advocates of a green and eco friendly household. Start with the following ways:
1. Wash clothes in lukewarm water instead of hot water.
Appliances that heat up water tend to consume a lot of energy. Instead of using hot water, stick with cold or lukewarm water. If you need to get rid of stubborn stains in your clothes, try to soak them in a stain-removing solution overnight first. This way, you won’t have to use hot water to get rid of the stains.
2. Use “green” cleaning products.
Instead of using chemical based cleaning products bought from the store, why not make your own? The mixture of vinegar and baking soda works wonders in getting rid of stains, lime deposits and molds. You can use this mixture to clean your kitchen sink, counter, floor, bathroom, foggy glass vases and stained accent tables.
3. Unplug appliances.
This not only reduces the chances of your appliances getting affected during thunder storms, but this also helps reduce the cost of electricity. Even if the appliance is turned on, it still collects energy when plugged.
4. Cool down food first before putting them in the fridge.
Avoid putting hot food in the refrigerator. This increases the temperature inside the fridge which will prompt the machine to use up more energy. The fridge also works harder unnecessarily and thereby its life span is shortened. This might also increase health risks inside the fridge.
