How To Take Care of Your Concrete Floor

Concrete floors are usually not that demanding to maintain – at least not like wooden flooring. However, when it gets stained, especially by something that contains a little acid, it can look all smudged up and unsightly.

In general, you should regularly clean your concrete floor with a non-abrasive and non-metallic scrub.  A simple clothing scrub will do.  This should get rid of of the hardened dirt and mud.  Use water mixed with a bit of soap or dishwashing liquid. To complete the job, make sure to mop the floor and let it dry.

For tougher stains, especially acid stains, you may try a stronger solution. Mix up a few drops of ammonia with your solution of soap and water. Spot apply the solution and leave it there until the acid stains have completely faded away. Now you can use the soft-bristled scrub to finish off the job.

You should consider applying a sealer to your concrete floor as it can add a layer of protection. This will help prevent acid from ruining your floor completely. It wicks moisture away. It also helps prevent your furniture such as your couch or accent tables from scraping or scratching the surface of the floor.  Read our article, How To Make Your Wooden Furniture Last A Lifetime.
